Potties B&B is located in the heart of the Upper Karoo in a town called De Aar. A town known for spring buck, steam trains and paragliding records. The Potties B&B was established to attract hangliding and paragliding enthusiasts from around the world to enjoy a unique flying experience in De Aar while enjoying the local sights.
Facilities at Potties include a swimming pool, braai/barbecue area, laundry and ironing service, faxing and internet connection, vault on premises for small valuables. An English breakfast plus small continental buffet are offered and home cooked dinners are available by prior arrangment.
There is a large garden around the pool area with braai facilities, guest are welcome to make use of these facilities. There is a variety of bird species for keen bird watchers to enjoy, to list a few: Redeye Bull Bulls, Cape White Eyes, Olive Thrush, Masked Mouse Birds,the occasional Heron and other common garden varieties.
Potties is within walking distance to the city centre and local restaurants, 5 min. from the train station and 4km from a registered airfield. The guest house is situated near the center of town, making it convenient to access the CBD area. Our facilities include 5 stylishly decorated bedrooms, which can accommodate up to 10 people sharing. All our rooms have en suite bathrooms. 3 Rooms are inside the main house and 2 are free standing, opposite the swimming pool and braai area. In the enclosed garden area, with lush green grass surrounding the pool, you can relax in an oasis, within our harsh but fascinating semi-desert region.
We can accommodate a conference / function or meeting up to max. 12 people. Facilities for such a function includes seating arrangements,flip chart/white board, video machine/TV, tea/coffee facilities and meals by arrangement.
For entertainment purposes, the guest house has the following equipment for hire to guests only - mountain bike, squash rackets, powered kites and a kite buggie. We can also arrange car hire, for those who arrived in De Aar by alternative transport and wish to travel outside of De Aar.
The guest house also operates a Paragliding School. So those who wish to get a taste of the sky, there are full Paragliding license courses, as well introductory and tandem flights. Paragliding equipment and accessories, powered kites and a small range of local arts and craft are on sale at the guest house.
We also manage the local airfield. Air band radio contact is available but must be arranged before hand. Limited refueling options for small aircraft which use normal unleaded or paraffin. At the moment Afgas is not available but will be in the near future. The strips are graded annually but it is best to call us before hand to check the condition. Landing here is at pilots own risk.
