Five Assegais Country Estate is half way to the Kruger Park, between Machadodorp and Badplaas, 274 klm. from Johannesburg. Originally built in the 1850’s by Paul Kruger on the then main route to the goldfields of Barberton, as a place of rest for the wagon trails before they attempted the ‘Hells Kloof Pass’ this charming home has been enlarged and artistically renovated to again offer a luxury retreat in total isolation on this spectacular estate.
Situated at the top of the infamous ‘Hells Kloof Pass’ this resting place was a welcome respite after the arduous 400 meter climb from the base of the Komati Valley up to the peak of the escarpment and many famous people are reputed to have enjoyed this oasis among the rocks of the Skurwerand, from Paul Kruger to Jock of the Bush veldt.
FIVE ASSEGAIS COUNTRY ESTATE offers a single very private and exclusive luxury country house, with 3 double bed rooms en-suite and a kid’s room with 2 bunk beds, for the discerning lover of country life.
Fully equipped and serviced with wonderful walks, trout fishing on dams close to the house, we allow pets (as long as the owners are well behaved); quad bikes, scramblers, 4x4’s and mountain bikes are also welcome. The house boasts an open plan kitchen, sitting and dinning room with cozy fireplace, TV, video and DSTV (bring your own card and avoid the connection fee of R50 plus R15 per day).
This home in the country caters for only one party at a time and is not suitable for couples over weekends and holidays as we charge a rate of R2250 per night. We will accommodate couples during the week at our normal per person rate of R300 ( min. R650 per night for the Lodge).
DIRECTIONS Take the N12 from Johannesburg to Witbank, which joins the N4, go past Belfast and take the SECOND turning into Machadodorp. Go into town over the river and get to a 4 way stop by the FNB, turn LEFT on to the R541 to BADPLAAS. Follow the road for 17.5 kilometers and take the BLOEMFONTEIN turn of to the RIGHT. This becomes a gravel road, go for 2 kilometers to the T-junction turn LEFT and follow the road, through one farm gate, to the lodge for about 3 kilometers.

Weekends and Public holidays: R2250 per night
Weekdays: min R650pn for the lodge
Adults: R300.00 pppn
Children: R150.00 pppn
