Swaziland is a landlocked country, bordered by South Africa on three sides except to the east, where it borders Mozambique. The country, inhabited primarily by Bantu speaking Swazi people, is named after the 19th century king Mswati II, from whom the people also take their name.
As you travel through the country, you will discover, as many before you, that Swaziland has a quaint offering of diverse vegetation at every turn, which one should probably expect in a larger country. |
Swaziland’s game and nature reserves are highly recommended for Big 5 game viewing. Visitors have access to game viewing vehicles, and are free to roam the area on well marked guided or self duided trails. The Mkhaya Game Reserve is an excellent place to watch wildlife, including the rare black rhinos.
Swaziland’s attractions include stunning mountain panoramas, a lively traditional culture, superb hiking, horse riding and walking trails and an excellent collection of high-quality handcrafts. The best trails are found in Malolotja Nature Reserve and the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.
Travelling in Swaziland is easy, there is accommodation to suit every budget and taste, ranging from a decent network of hostels to family friendly B&B’s, Guest Houses and Game Lodges. |
