LIMPOPO, SOUTH AFRICA

Limpopo tends not to feature on the standard tourist wish list but the empty spaces of this province have their own unique “go safari “appeal . There is plenty to satisfy both the wannabe pioneer and indulged tourist.
Limpopo is the land of myths, legends, beautiful scenery and landscape, as well as majestic Baobab trees. It is the northern most province and shares borders with the neighbouring SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) countries of Botswana in the western side, Mozambique on the east and Zimbabwe in the north. Its proximity to all these SADC countries makes Limpopo the perfect springboard for exploring the riches of this exciting part of the African continent.

On the surface, Limpopo is a broad, boundless area, a landscape tanning itself in the heat of the African sun. However, let this not deter you because a look beyond reveals a land of immense beauty that brings interest and entertainment in generous amounts.
These are ancient lands, attested by the recently encrypted Mapungubwe World heritage site in the Limpopo Valley and Makapans Caves near Mokopane (Potgietersrus).

Limpopo is a land of beautiful and contrasting landscape, which is typical of Africa hence it has become a favourite destination for leisure and adventure travellers worldwide. Come to a region of infinite scenic beauty with a great diversity of natural and manmade attractions, rich cultural heritage and an abundance of wildlife and nature-based tourism opportunities.

The Limpopo network of protected areas and nature reserves are amongst the best in the African continent. Through these nature reserves, we seek to preserve our natural heritage for future generations and for sharing with the international community.

Long neglected under the apartheid regime, the Venda region is a world away from the South Africa of up-town Johannesburg: here even a short diversion from the freeway takes you through an Africa of mist-clad hilltops, dusty streets and mud huts. A land where myth and legend continue to play a major role in every life, Venda is peppered with lakes and forests that are of great religious significance and the region continues to support a thriving artistic heritage.

The Lephalale/Allday area is a true and favoured gateway to Africa via four border posts to Botswana. The area offers an infinite variety of scenic contrasts from the unique Waterberg Wilderness with its extraordinary beauty which lies in it’s superb vistas, mountain gorges, clear streams and rolling hills, all rich in indigenous species of flora and fauna and many rock art and geological sites.

At the foot of the Waterberg lies Bela-Bela and country side, waiting to be discovered by all adventure addicts. The indigenous bushveld vegetation of the area with breathtaking scenes is the ideal setting to experience nature. The mountains of Haenertsburg, Magoebaskloof and Agatha are linked via the spectacular Georges Valley which comprises indigenous forests, cascading waterfalls, placid lakes and craggy kloofs.

The area around Tzaneen produces the majority of the country\'s subtropical fruits and winter vegetables. The mountainous landscape, the subtropical climate, the lush indigenous vegetation which alternates with plantations, and the largely unspoilt natural environment, make this picturesque area one of the most attractive recreation and tourist areas in South Africa.

Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit are the main entrances to the northern and middle part off Kruger National Park, therefore Bed and Breakfast, Self Catering, Luxury Guest Houses, Game Lodges or other accommodation can be found easily. The safari industry here is divers, bushwalks, guided BIG 5 safari tours, micro-light / helicopter flights and a large variety of other activities are offered.
