| 15 DAYS SELF DRIVE - HISTORY,WILDLIFE, BEACH |
|
South Africa has many surprises in store. You can tour the whole of the country in a month, but it is often more rewarding to focus your attention on one part of the country.
This self drive trip takes you from Johannesburg to Kwazulu Natal, Mpumalanga ( Place of the Rising Sun) , Kruger National Park and Swaziland. Since you stay at least 2 nights at each accommodation you will have ample time to discover the beauty of the dramatic Drakensberg escarpment, the Blyde River Canyon, the Anglo-Zulu Battlefields and the laid back ambience of Swaziland.
The Hluhluwe/Imfolozi and iSimangaliso Wetlands Parks are the other highlights of this 15 day self drive.
Travelling in Kwazulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Swaziland is easy. The road network is excellent, accommodation is of high standard and there is plenty to do to keep you busy.
Accommodation ranges from Game Lodges in private game reserves, B&B’s, Self Catering bungalows to luxury Guest Houses.

Day 4/5/6 : Rorke’s Drift - Mtubatuba ( appr. 200 km )
Heading east from the stunning Drakensberg mountain range a leisury, scenic drive takes you into Zululand & Maputaland. Zululand is most visited for the spectacular Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Park and it’s traditional Zulu villages.
Maputaland is one of the wildest and most fascinating regions of South Africa. This beautiful swathe of Kwazulu Natal offers a different face of South Africa, where deserted beaches, mist-clad hills and traditional villages steal the limelight. The coastline includes some of South Africa’s highlights: the iSimangaliso world heritage site and the coffee-table book vistas of Kosi Bay.
Situated in a tranquil, scenic environment with a spectacular variety of birds, the lodge borders a private game reserve and is appr. 30 minutes from the iSimangaliso world heritage site and the world-renowned Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve.
Because this region has so much to offer, you will stay 3 nights at this accommodation on B&B basis.

Day 7/8 Mtubatuba - Swaziland - Mbabane( appr. 350 km )
Swaziland, one of the smallest countries in Africa, has a reputation for friendliness in Southern Africa. During the apartheid it was best known for its casinos and nightclubs - pleasures not allowed in South Africa at that time.
Wildlife watching, superb hiking, horse riding, climbing and the friendly people and stunning panoramas are the country’s new tourist attraction. Swaziland contains several large game parks and reserves, Mkhaya Game Reserve is particularly noted for its black rhinos.
Some of Southern Africa’s best craft shops can be found in the Ezulwini and Malkern’s Valley.
In the hills of Mbabane, the lodge is set in 400 acres of indigeneous gardens with marked trails through the rocky mountains, a trout dam, a tennis court and swimming pool.
Accommodation is on B&B basis, dinner is available on request.

From Mbabane you follow the M 1, cross the border at Jeppe’s Reef and at Malelane Gate you enter Kruger National Park, one of the best safari destinations in the world. It is world known for the variety of animals, including all Big 5. Your visit is likely to be one of the highlights of your self drive holiday.
Southern Kruger is the most popular section of the park, with the highest animal population and the best infrastructure. The park is criss-crossed by over a thousand miles of roads and offers excellent opportunities for self-drive safaris as well as guided drives.

Day 11/12 Kruger National Park - Panorama Route - Sabie ( appr.100 km )
The Drakensberg escarpment marks the point where the highveld plunges down over 1000 m, before spilling out on the eastern lowveld. It’s one of South Africa’s most scenic areas, marked by dramatic cliffs, stunning views and an abundance of adventure activities.
The Panorama Route is an easy days outing from Sabie, the whole round trip is less than 200 kms and includes attractions such as The Pinnacle, Gods Window, Berlin and Lisbon falls, Bourke's Luck Potholes and the world famous Blyde River Canyon, where you can view the 3 Rondavels and then finish off your day with a visit to the historical old mining town of Pilgrims Rest.
The rooms in the Country House open onto the verandah, a place where you can sit and enjoy the clean mountain air ( the elevation is approx 1100 metres) and have a sundowner whilst you watch the sun set over the mountains.
Accommodation is on B&B basis.

Day 13/14 Sabie—Dullstroom ( ca. 125 km )
Dullstroom is a chic, attractive town in the heart of trout country. It is surrounded by rolling hills and studded with rocky outcrops and small lakes. It excudes the ambience of a genteel English country estate.
If you are an angling aficionado, this is the place to be. Try your hand at the fine art of Fly Fishing or visit the Bird of Prey center.
Accommodation is in a secure and scenic country estate with river walks, a wetland and birdhide, a mountain hike and rustling pine forests. There are numerous destinations on the property where guests can picnic or barbecue in an idyllic setting, and a swim in a river pool is an invigorating experience.
Accommodation in the lodge is on B&B basis.
|
Day 15: Dullstroom - Johannesburg ( ca. 200 km )
It is time to leave the fly-fishing capital of Mpumalanga behind and head for Johannesburg.
Time to say goodbye, or perhaps you will continue your holiday with a new adventure....
