Limpopo tends not to feature on the standard tourist intinerary but the empty spaces of this province have their own unique “go safari “ appeal . There is plenty to satisfy both the wannabe pioneer and indulged tourist.

The province shares borders with the neighbouring SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) countries of Botswana in the western side, Mozambique on the east and Zimbabwe in the north.
Its proximity to all these SADC countries makes Limpopo the perfect springboard for exploring the riches of this exciting part of the African continent.

In The Valley of the Elephants, the area east of Tzaneen, Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit are the main tourist destinations.

Here are the main entrances to the northern and middle part off Kruger National Park, therefore Bed and Breakfast or other accommodation can be found easily. The safari industry here is divers, bushwalks, guided safari tours and microlight/ helicopter flights and a large variety of other activities are offered. All major Limpopo attractions are within an easy days drive from these towns, so one can easily spend 3 or 4 days here without getting bored. Through Phalaborwa gate the beaches of Mozambique are easy accessible.

The Soutpansberg in the north rises out of the plain in a broad, green wave. Here stunning views and wilderness walks offer a completely different Limpopo experience. On the border with Botswana and Zimbabwe, Vhembe Dongola National Park not only boasts populations of the Big 5 but also incorporates many of South Africa’s most significant Iron and Stone Age sites.

Tzaneen and Magoebaskloof are the centre of the tropical fruit industry, lush cycad forests surround the realm of the mystical Rain Queen and the traditional homeland of the Venda people.

West from Polokwane and Bela-Bela, the province boasts the magnificent Waterberg range. It stretches from Thabazimbi to the Lapalala river. This is Africa at its best, the rolling terrain is ideal for exploring on horseback. Marakele National Park and Lapalala Wilderness area should not be missed.
